What is HERU?
This was a question asked twice in response to our last newsletter.
We really appreciate feedback. Thank you.
With this prompt I would like to share Mission HERU’s Vision, so this is a brief synopsis of the HERU and the vision for the company.
HERU is a clean, quiet and safe hybrid heat pump that produces water at over 70 degrees C, whilst reducing Global Warming Gasses. HERU is energised by electric, 20% hydrogen blend of gas can be used, mains gas / LPG or biogas, along with the energy created from items previously discarded with no further purpose to include uneaten food/ garden trimmings/paper/card/plastic packaging/nappies etc. As HERU produces hot water at a temperature in excess of a standard electric heat pump, the expensive modifications required to enable an air or ground source heat pump to work efficiently are not required i.e. larger pipe sizes, special radiators, underfloor heating pipes, wall insulation.
Mission HERU’s vision is to make HERU available and affordable for every person and organisation globally (commercial customers initially) using volume engineering and production techniques. We plan to manufacture 500,000 HERU heat pumps per annum in the UK, starting production in 2024 of the early adopter units, going on to create over 4,000 new skilled direct employees in the UK, within 15 years (up skilling employees in the “waste” industry as install, production and service engineers) and over 3,000 indirect jobs in the UK supply chain. 4 factories are planned globally with a further 25,000 direct employees, producing 2 million HERU heat pumps per annum.
Special thank you to Trudi Webber for managing the new website with Laser Red and James Newell, Nigel Green for managing the UKCA and CE certification process, Downing IP for securing the USA patent (not straightforward) and the fabrication companies (ABC Stainless for being with us since 2017, so helpful) and the many other loyal suppliers behind the scenes helping us.
Kind regards
Nik

HERU 125 Built, Commissioned and in Test
The pre-production commercial HERU125 is now in test.
This process has included the testing and validation of the lid locking safety system, the tuning of the proportional-integral-derivative controller (PID Controller) and the testing of the engineers diagnostic Supervisory Control and Data Acquisition (SCADA) system.
The commercial HERU units are fitted with an EWON device that allows the HERU engineers to access the HERU, via an independent SIM card (no requirement to connect the HERU to the customers IT system) for diagnostic assistance and software updates.
The HERU has been fitted with PT100 thermocouples reading the water temperatures to provide accurate data for the Co-efficiency of Performance (COP), along with the input gas meter and input electric meter.

HERU 125 Certification
We are in the process of obtaining UKCA / CE certification.
The UKCA marking is the product marking used for products being placed on the market in Great Britain. The CE marking is the product marking used for products being placed on the market in the European Economic Area.
There are 6 stages to the above certification process:
- Identify the applicable legislation
- Identify the applicable requirements of legislation
- Identify an appropriate route to conformity
- Assessment of the products conformity
- Compile the Technical File (TDF)
- Create a Declaration UKCA / CE and affix the required mark
